Road rescue is a demanding and challenging field. In many situations, custom solutions are required, and the forces at play during operations are often difficult to predict.
For example, it can be hard to estimate the force needed on a winch to free a trapped vehicle. This places high demands on rescue equipment and the vehicles used in rescue operations. What methods and products are used in road rescue?
Vehicle Recovery
According to the interpretation of the European Machinery Directive (which defines minimum safety requirements for machinery, including lifting equipment), dragging a load across the ground—if the load would not remain in place upon loss of pulling force—is considered lifting on an inclined plane.
Forankra follows this principle and treats road rescue as “ground lifting.” Therefore, our rescue equipment is marked with a DOR (Dynamic Operating Rating) and manufactured with the same high safety factors as standard lifting gear.
Note: Due to the heavy forces involved in rescue operations, rescue equipment must not be used for standard lifting where the load is lifted completely off the ground.
Each product comes with a user manual that includes, among other things, information about how the working angle affects the load capacity of the equipment.
Securing Vehicles During Transport
In the next stage—during the transport of recovered vehicles—Forankra offers a wide range of load securing equipment. This transport is considered standard freight and is subject to the regulations of the Transport Agency (TSFS 2017:25). The products are marked with LC (Load Capacity) and STF (Standard Tension Force) values.
